3D Mesh Model Segmentation Using Marching Plane

چکیده
Decomposing 3D mesh into meaningful components is a challenging research field in computer graphics. In this paper, we propose a segmentation algorithm which focuses on cutting out individual prominent parts from original mesh based on prominent feature point and marching plane. Our method first extracts prominent feature points which reside on tips of each prominent part of a given mesh. And then the mesh is intersected by a set of planes, namely, marching plane which marches from a prominent feature point. Through the marching process, we extract local cross sections and compute its area which can represent the local volumes. Finally, we can simply cut out the prominent part using marching plane, as the boundary of a prominent part usually lies on the place where the local volume varies rapidly. Experimental result shows our method invariant to the pose, robust to the noise and also competitive when compare to relative works.

Perception-based 3D Triangle Mesh Segmentation Using Fast Marching Watersheds
In this paper, we describe an algorithm called Fast Marching Watersheds that segments a triangle mesh into visual parts. This computer vision algorithm leverages a human vision theory known as the minima rule. Our implementation computes the principal curvatures and principal directions at each vertex of a mesh, and then our hillclimbing watershed algorithm identifies regions bounded by contour...
متن کاملA Generalized Marching Cubes Algorithm Based On Non-Binary Classifications
We present a new technique for generating surface meshes from a uniform set of discrete samples. Our method extends the well-known marching cubes algorithm used for computing polygonal isosurfaces. While in marching cubes each vertex of a cubic grid cell is binary classified as lying above or below an isosurface, in our approach an arbitrary number of vertex classes can be specified. Consequent...
متن کاملIntegration of Multiple Range and Intensity Image Pairs Using a Volumetric Method to Create Textured 3D Models
The reconstruction of highly detailed, 3D object models is a major goal of current research. Such models can be used in machine vision applications as well as for visualization purposes. The method presented here assumes that there are multiple range and intensity image pairs of an object, all registered to a global coordinate system. The individual range images are then used to create a surfac...
متن کاملMulti-resolution Triangulation of Scattered Data taken by 3D scanner
A method for multi-resolution triangulation of 3D scan data is presented. Multi-resolution leads to uniform approximation where the closeness to the 3D scan data can be controlled. The presented approach has two main phases: 1. Extraction of a coarse initial mesh as first approximation of the scan data using the Marching cubes algorithm; 2. Subdivision refinement strategy that iteratively leads...
